The Gilbert method was generally well-received from the mid-
1890s to the 1930s. For example, in 1930 Sisti referrerd to
"effects of Gilbert's autoserotherapy on the blood picture in
serofibrinous pleurisy; 6 cases [31A7]. And without reference to
these early efforts, we find reference to a apparently related
methodology in the current literature.
