AUTOSEROTHERAPY: DERMATOSES - 13E6
In 1913 Spiethoff [13E6] discussed the therapeutical attributes
of homologous and heterogenous serum, and other organic fluids,
as background to a description of the reinjection of autogenous
serum to treat various dermatoses. His technic involved the
withdrawal of from 50-100 cc from the "kubitalvene", centrifuged
it electrically for 3 minutes, heated the serum for 1/2 hour at
55-56 degrees C, and reinjected 10-25cc into the vein. This
procedure was repeated 2-3 times weekly for a total of 6 times.
AUTOSEROTHERAPY: INTRAVENOUS AT INCEPTION - 13E6
It is noted that Spiethoff's initial autoserotherapy technic
involved intravenous reinjection of blood-serum [13E6], as did
other enthusiastic proponents including Vorschutz [see
AUTOMEDEX]. Robertson [16H6] attempted both intravenous and
subcutaneous reinjection, noing a preference for the former
[e.g., Robertson 16H6, ]. Fox [14H2] used subcutaneous and IV
injections interchangeably, without stating a preference for one
or the other; Kaiser [17H1] used IM reinjections, and intraspinal
in chorea; Thomas [41A6] and Marks [42B1] used subcutaneous
autoserum; Woo [37A1] subcutaneously reinjected autogenous
blister-serum.
